    About the Lodi Test Route

The Lodi road test is conducted entirely on local residential and commercial streets near the Mill St testing lot. Examiners use rotating routes, but they typically include:

    • Garibaldi Ave — main access road with moderate traffic
    • Residential streets near Mill St — 25 mph zones
    • Local intersections with stop signs and traffic lights
    • Parallel parking in a designated area at the test site
    • K-turn on a residential street
    • Straight-line backing in the lot

💡 Pro Tip from Our Instructors

Drive the streets around 8 Mill St before your test day. Familiarize yourself with Garibaldi Ave and the nearby side streets. Students who pre-drive the area pass at a significantly higher rate.

Skills Tested at the Lodi MVC

Your examiner will evaluate these core skills during the 15–20 minute test. Each has specific passing criteria.

    1

    Parallel Parking

Within 18 inches of the curb, no more than 3 attempts

    2

    Three-Point Turn (K-Turn)

Smooth, controlled, no climbing the curb

    3

    Straight-Line Backing

Back straight for 2–3 car lengths without swerving

    4

Stop Sign & Traffic Light Compliance

Full 3-second stop, look both ways before proceeding

    5

    Speed Limit Adherence

Residential streets: 25 mph; follow posted limits

    6

    Lane Positioning & Turns

Stay in correct lane; right on right, left on left

    7

    Observation / Mirror Checks

Regularly check all mirrors and blind spots

    8

    Smooth Acceleration & Braking

No jerky movements; anticipate stops early

6 Most Common Lodi Road Test Mistakes

These are the top reasons students fail at the Lodi testing site. Know them. Avoid them.

    Rolling Through Stop Signs

Come to a COMPLETE stop — wheels fully stopped for 3 seconds. Examiners watch your tires. A roll is an automatic fail.

Not Checking Mirrors & Blind Spots

Exaggerate your head movements. Check mirrors every 5–8 seconds and physically turn your head for blind spot checks when changing lanes or merging.

    Improper Parallel Parking

The Lodi test includes parallel parking. Practice until you can do it in 3 moves or fewer. Stay within 18 inches of the curb.

    Speeding or Going Too Slow

Most Lodi test streets are 25 mph residential zones. Stay within 5 mph of the limit — being too slow is also penalized.

    Wide Turns

When turning left, don't swing wide into oncoming lanes. Right turns should hug the curb. Stay in your lane.

    Forgetting to Signal Early Enough

Signal at least 100 feet before turning or changing lanes. Cancel the signal after completing the turn.

Parallel Parking at the Lodi Road Test

Parallel parking is a required maneuver at Lodi. Here is our step-by-step method that works every time.

    1

Pull up alongside the front car

Align your rear bumper with the front car's rear bumper. Stay 2–3 feet away from it.

    2

Turn wheel full right, reverse slowly

Back up until your car is at a 45° angle to the curb — roughly when you can see the curb in your driver mirror.

    3

    Straighten wheel, keep reversing

Straighten your wheel and continue reversing slowly until your front bumper clears the front car.

    4

Turn wheel full left, pull forward

Turn sharply left and ease forward to center yourself in the space. End within 18 inches of the curb.

Documents to Bring to the Lodi Road Test

Missing one document = automatic reschedule. Do not show up without all of these.

Signed Parental Consent Form (if under 18)
